Self-Knowledge, The Aim of Yoga Print E-mail

ImageWhy meditate? Why do we want knowledge about the Chakras? Of what use in our everyday life is this knowledge and these practices?  One of the main premises of Yoga is to raise everything we do to the level of the conscious mind – there are so many things we do instinctively or reactively, meaning that we are not doing things with full awareness.  Self-knowledge is one of the most precious gifts we can give ourselves. In the practice of yoga the answers for self-knowledge arrive through one’s own practice and personal experience, whereupon you will begin to find your own truth, your own reality. It is all about self-discovery – discovering who you are and what your purpose is – no-one else can tell you, it is something you realise within yourself.

As individuals, our perspective is based upon individual experience which may differ greatly to another person’s. Our choices and actions reflect our personal perspective but this doesn’t necessarily make them right or wrong – perspectives are how we perceive a particular thing at a particular point in time and choose to act accordingly.

Yoga in Daily Life provides the mechanism of "Self-Enquiry Meditation" - a self-help reflection technique to help us understand our choices and actions by raising everything we do or think to the level of consciousness. Also the systematic practise of yoga postures helps to improve our awareness of our physical body and which yaoga sanas and techniques help to improve our health. A great support for a relaxed body and peaceful mind is the regular practise of the Pranayama breathing techniques which have a profound effect on us physically and mentally.
