How, when and what to eat...

cheries

• Eat less, chew more. Chew food thoroughly.

• Don't eat quickly. Don't eat when you're in a hurry.

• Eat only when hungry. Be aware of false hunger.

• Don't eat when you are angry or upset. Rest until the mind becomes calm.

• Don't overload the stomach. Finish meals when the stomach is three-quarters full.

• Simplify meals. Eat just 4 or 5 different foods at one meal. Too many mixtures or combinations may over-burden the digestive system.

• Eat combinations of food that are compatible, otherwise incompatible food combinations will ferment in the stomach. Observe what suits you.

• Avoid re-heating food as the Prana or life-force is gone in reheated food. For the same reason avoid eating old butter and too many tinned foods.

• Do not eat anything that you don’t like.

• Always eat some fresh, raw vegetables or sprouts/radish/cucumber with your food.

• If possible, fast one day a week. Fasting eliminates toxins, overhauls the digestive system and gives rest to the organs.

• Fruit should be perfectly ripe. Do not eat sour or unripe fruits.

• Avoid eating between meals and late at night.

• Eat meals at regular hours. Eat when the Pingala Nadi flows freely (when the breath flows easily through the right nostril).

• Take food as medicine. Give up greediness.

• Observe silence whilst eating. Be in the present moment.

• Don’t run immediately after eating. Sit peacefully in Vajrasan for 10 minutes to aid digestion.
