Yoga in Daily LifeThe Australian Association of Yoga in Daily Life is a volunteer based, non-profit organisation with branches in most major cities of Australia. The Association is committed to improving the quality of life of the community through health education and promotion.

Since 2001, the Association's volunteers have been successfully providing free Yoga for Special Needs to over 20 community based organizations, including: Balmain High Support Unit - for cerebral palsy and spina bifida children, Killara Nursing Home, Palliative Care Greenwich Hospital, Sydney Children's Hospital (cancer patients), Parents of Disabled Children in Dee Why, Sunshine Homes, Vietnam Veterans and ENCORE (post breast cancer program).

The volunteer 'Special Needs' yoga instructor, undertakes specific training (additional to the 2 year course) in how to communicate and tailor the Yoga techniques to a specific group. This training includes instruction from experienced Yoga instructors as well as participation in yoga or non-yoga related activities involving the special needs group. For example, a Yoga class for children with disabilities that has been established for two years now, doubles as a training platform for other instructors wishing to take this service into the community. The Association is also funding training for instructors to complete a 6 month program at the Royal North Shore Hospital in dealing with the dying.

The Association is also known for its Free Yoga in the Park New Windowevents which introduce thousands of Australians to the health benefits of Yoga each year. Click on the link above for more information on Free Yoga in the Park.
