Everything you need to know is held inside of you

Bandhas are energy locks that influence internal energy flow; interlocking and interconnecting internal systems and energy channels. There are 72,000 energy channels or Nadis in the body. Where several Nadis form a junction a wheel of energy is formed called a Chakra. There are 8 main Chakras located along the length of the spine to the top of the head. Mula Bandha stimulates the energy of the Muladhara Chakra, located at the base of the coccyx.

Yoga and Menopause PDF  | Print |
Written by Sevadevi

From my personal experience I found the symptoms of menopause were mild and manageable. I had been practicing Yoga regularly for 10 years before reaching this time of life and was fully established in the practise of asanas, pranayama and meditation. I understand that I was the fortunate one and there is real suffering for many women at this time including bouts of depression, hot flushes, fatigue, night sweats and anxiety. Your yoga practice during menopause is an empowering life tool for you to focus on the positive to manage and control menopausal symptoms. Think of your symptoms as a burning of old energies to make way for the new, a tapas, an inner purification process.

Practising Yoga During Menstruation PDF  | Print |
Written by Sevadevi
During menstruation a gentler practise of yoga is recommended. Menstrual pain is a sign of hormonal imbalances that occur at this time. Through Yoga we can take positive action to eliminate this pain. Hormonal imbalance is the cause of emotional vulnerability before and during menstruation. It is essential not to strain, do inverted postures or engage in strong practice but to take advantage of heightened awareness felt at this time for nurturing and healing. The following exercises may be beneficial during menstruation (from the book Yoga in Daily Life by Paramhans Swami Maheshwarananda).

True health comes to us through our effort to understand  the important question: What makes us human?

New York, April 26, 2007

By invitation of Mr. James Janeski, Director of  the Lott Residence for Seniors in New York City, Swamiji gave a morning Satsang and yoga demonstration to a large group of senior residents, including a youthful woman of 104 who participates in Yoga In Daily Life weekly classes at the residence. Bhaktas were also present as Swamiji continued with the initial programs  in NYC as part of His Spiritual Awakening for World Peace Tour, 2007.

Swamiji opened with a salute to all from His heart saying "I feel blessed by the Cosmic Power to be in the Lott Residence with you".  He spoke of the great wisdom in the group because of their collective experience in overcoming life's difficulties. Swamiji imparted to the group a sense of continuity and ease as He described how the truth and wisdom of our Self will never die. "The body is like a cloth, we may change the cloth but we are still there" in reference to physical death.  Swamiji continued that for the Self, death cannot come. The Self is that Radiant Cosmic Light and as long as there is light, darkness will not come near.

One of the lessons of the morning imparted to all by Swamiji was that we should be happy and enjoy while we reside in the physical form, however, there is even more happiness that is everlasting and joyful in other parts of the Cosmos.  This comes as the Truth of our being merges into the Cosmic Truth at the time of our passing.

Swamiji encouraged all to take care of ourselves and be healthy although He reminded us that health is not everything.  Such health only includes physical and psychic states of wellness whereas true health lies beyond our physical being in our capacity to participate and appreciate the grand opportunity of being human on this planet.  True health comes to us through our efforts to understand  the important question:  What makes us human?  In our effort to understand, we will awaken in ourselves the dormant qualities of love, understanding, forgiveness, giving, warmth and become closer to God.

Swamiji encouraged all towards positive thinking and to never feel alone.  Honoring a request from one of the seniors,  Swamiji closed with Gayatri Mantra and explained that this mantra is spiritually connected to the cosmic resonance and the cause of the entire creation. It is this same connection that fills the void of lonliness.

From the wisdom of the most golden resident of 104 years, Mrs. Cooper imparted to all her advice… "If you don't use it, you will loose it".
