September 14, 2008 - Washington D.C. Swamiji at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial

Today the annual 9/11 Unity Walk took place in Washington D.C. bringing together people of the world's faiths and cultures to celebrate the unity of humanity in a world struggling with religious intolerance.  Organised by the Cornell Club of Washington, united religious leaders and people of diversity, to share in a spirited walk along Massachusetts Avenue, beginning at Washington Hebrew Congregation and concluding at the Gandhi Memorial Shrine.

During the Walk, people were greeted by faith leaders in front of their houses of worship – the Papal Nuncio at the Archdiocese, Sikh chanters before their Gurdwara. When the Walk reached the Gandhi memorial, there was Hindu chanting and music before remarks given by a compatriot of Dr. Martin Luther King.
Visiting spiritual luminary His Holiness Paramhans Swami Maheshwarananda of the Hindu faith, joined the walk and with great reverence garlanded Gandhi’s statue in remembrance of the great man.
