Australian Association of Yoga in Daily LifeWho is
Yoga in Daily Life ?

The Australian Association of Yoga in Daily Life is a not-for-profit incorporated Association and non-government organisation (NGO) in roster Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. The Association was established in Australia 1991 and its activities are aimed to serve humankind by fostering health, world peace, humanitarian aid, protection of the environment and all creatures, as well as tolerance, respect and freedom amongst religions, cultures and nations.

On a local level the Australian Association of Yoga in Daily Life provides a community service with volunteer instructors conducting yoga and meditation classes for all areas of the public including adults, seniors, athletes, children, teenagers, corporate groups as well as disadvantaged community groups such as intellectually challenged adults in institutions; wheelchair-bound children and adults; citizens in aged-homes; inmates of prisons; the terminally ill and their carers.

On a national level Australian Association of Yoga in Daily Life, frequently collaborates with other organisations to raise community awareness and funds for humanitarian initiatives. These have included the Red Cross, The Cancer Council, Oxfam Community Aid Abroad, Amnesty International, The Australia-Tibet Council, WSPA, the Earth Charter, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Australia, as well as various local and state government departments. Yoga in Daily Life also supports the rich multi-cultural diversity of Australia by frequently hosting cultural events to foster harmony and understanding between people of all nations. Interfaith dialogues are also an important part of the Association’s work.

On an international level the Australian Association of Yoga in Daily Life is a recognised Non-Government Organisation (NGO) in roster Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. Yoga in Daily Life is actively engaged in supporting a number of humanitarian initiatives abroad, with particular focus on water and child education. In 2002, the Association launched its Type II Initiative for Desert Rainwater Harvesting, at the United Nations World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg.  This initiative is a grass-roots project aimed to address the urgent water crisis griping the drought-stricken regions of Rajasthan, India. Yoga in Daily Life also holds the view that: Every child has an equal right to education. No child with a wish to study should be denied that wish due to their family’s financial or community status. The Association’s members contributed on many levels to establish a primary and secondary school for 400 children in rural Rajasthan, helping to address the issues of child education amongst the world’s poorest communities.
