Will yoga help my sore back? 4 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 1
I have not practised yoga before and someone told me that it would be good for my sore back. Could you please tell me how yoga would help me. I don't have an injury, the problem is just muscular pain and stiffness.

Hi Nona - yes yoga is likely to be quite helpful for your sore back. Healthy muscles should be able to relax, stretch and strengthen without pain

Yoga works on a few different levels to help the muscles of the back become healthier. Relaxation techniques will help to relax tense and tight muscles. Yoga postures (asanas) will help to bring a balance of strength and flexibility to the muscles. This process will also help to improve the circulation and release toxins stored in the muscles. Meditation and relaxation techniques can also help to relax a tense mind which contributes to a release of physical tensions.

The combination of these techniques practiced in a yoga class helps relieve muscular pain and stiffness for most yoga students.

Yoga is a means of relaxing, stretching and strengthening all the muscles of the body including the deep layers of back muscles. A class begins with a relaxation practise to consciously soften and let go of tension with the breath. Relaxation practise can include a progressive muscles relaxation of all the major muscles groups of the body. Your Yoga in Daily Life Class is designed in a holistic and nourishing way to bring harmony to the body, mind and soul by uniting breath with balanced and natural movements. Our Easy Yoga classes are suitable for everyone.

The deep layers of back muscles have an ability to regenerate with gentle controlled movement which include spinal twisting movements which alternatively stretch and strengthen the muscles either side of the spine, improving circulation, toning and releasing tension and tightness. Please speak to your Yoga teacher at the beginning of the class so that they can support you in your yoga practise.
